► Grapeland?
Yep, Grapeland, Texas. Well, close to it, anyway. Our place is a
tad east of Grapeland ... about the center of the triangle formed by
Crockett, Palestine, and Rusk. Part of our reason for choosing the
area is that it's not terribly far from family and friends in Houston,
Austin, and Kerrville (about 2.5 hours from our Houston home). ►
Why move? Our thought is that our family will
be well served by a slower paced life with serious daily exposure to the earth,
open forest, animals and nature. We could do that in Houston to some
extent, but it's easier "in the country" ... without the
traffic and sirens and billboards and the like. So here we go! It's our hope
that others may enjoy such things, too, so we are very anxious to
share the new place with family and friends. We want the new hacienda to
be a retreat for those we love ... we really, really do! ►
What's it like? 34 acres of heavily
wooded, hilly land, about 1/2 mile from house to back. Great trails for
walking! Some pine, lots of oak, some other stuff. A few open meadows,
2 creeks, a spring-fed pond, and even a former Christmas tree farm in a back clearing.
A 3BR, 3BA house, horse stables, outbuildings, a back-meadow cabin, and an RV pad. Deer, rabbits, foxes, coyotes,
skunks, squirrels, opossums, owls, armadillos, wild hogs, and we've
heard about an occasional bobcat. Oh, and nesting bluebirds! Want to see

Warning: lots of tree photos <smile>
Here are a few if you don't want to wade through them all. Click on
any to see a larger version. We took these photos before spring arrived,
so the trees don't have many leaves!
